Yad Hazikaron in Modi'in
Tu Bishvat: It is a Jewish agricultural New Year of the plants and flowers, and unlike other New Year celebrations in the Jewish calendar – it takes place on the 15th of the month, which is how the House of Hillel decided. The first day of Nisan – in the Spring – is the New Year for holidays and kings; the first day in Elul – in the Summer – is the New Year for animals and the first day in Tishre - in the Fall - is the New Year for years. (Mishna, the Rosh Hashana chapter A).
We planted in the Zaglembie Forest Commemoration site for the Sacred on the outskirts of Modi'in. The weather was fabulous, the place green, clean and well kept with a table laden with tasty refreshments and happy first, second and third generation members, who are all tied to the same region in the Diaspora.
The aim of having a multi-generation, traditional, happy gathering was achieved.
Avraham Green and Yitzchak Greenhoise congratulated us and we had the privilege to hear Rabbi Glicksman. We sang along with Shlomo, Gil's father, who came with his guitar, his son and his friends and their homeroom teacher from the Ostrowski School.
Avi Esterzon, the "Guardian Angel" of the site led and prepared the actual planting. At the end of which we held hands and created a big circle of people together.
Thanks to Rachel Bebes and Shimshon Jashvitz for their activity throughout the year and special thanks for that specific event.
Every gathering brings enthusiasm and a desire to do more. Until our next meeting, be well!
